Geotechnical Engineering Student Marisa Contrafatto is working with Professor Giulia Viggiani to characterise the behaviour of partly saturated expansive clays at small strain using the suction-controlled Resonant Column/Torsion Shear (RCTS) apparatus recently installed in the NRFIS Geomechanics Laboratory.

On 11th December, the Civil Engineering and National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS) Support Team was awarded the University of Cambridge Professional Services Recognition Award. The annual scheme is open to all administrative staff across the University whose work supports research, teaching and scholarship. It celebrates the very best administrative and technical work across the University.

Academics and researchers from the Department of Engineering welcomed The Duke of York when he visited the UK Collaboratorium for Research on Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS) at the new Civil Engineering Building, on the West Site of the University of Cambridge, on 29 October.

Representatives from industry, academia and policy attended the official opening of the new Civil Engineering Building on Tuesday 24 September. The £36 million collaborative space for the civil engineering industry to work alongside leading researchers from the University incorporates the UK Collaboratorium for Research in Infrastructure and Cities (UKCRIC) National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS).
